New Program Aims to Give Money to More Schools

Heath, Ohio (August 27, 2010) – Indian Mound Mall has changed its annual back-to-school shopping program to give up to 18 schools the opportunity to be awarded money.

Indian Mound Mall drives its commitment to children’s education through Earning for Learning, formerly known as Tools for Your School, a partnership program designed to promote and support education in local school districts.  Earning for Learning encourages local residents to shop at Indian Mound Mall over a six-week promotional period to earn “points,” and ultimately the chance to win cash prizes, for the school of their choice.

Past programs have awarded only the top three schools at the end of the program. The new program is 6 weeks long, running Monday, August 16th through Sunday, September 26th, and now gives money to the top 3 schools each week, for a total of 18 awards. Each week the first place school wins $500, second place wins $250 and third place wins $100. Schools can win multiple weeks, leaving the possibility open for one school to win up to $3,000.

The program is in its second week, and the first week winners were all schools who have won in years past. Liberty Middle School came in 1st and won $500, Hebron Elementary was 2nd and won $250 and St. Frances was 3rd and won $100. While the three Week One winners have won in past years, two of the top three schools currently leading in Week Two would be first time winners. As of end-of-day Wednesday, August 25th Par Excellence Academy is in 1st place, Utica High School is in 2nd place and Northridge Middle School in Johnstown is in third. Utica High School won in 2006.

Each dollar that customers spend can be turned into points for the school of their choice. Each dollar spent equals one point, with double points earned on purchases made on

Tuesday and Wednesday and triple points earned on any purchase of an Indian Mound Mall gift card. A point ratio is then used by dividing the points a school earned by the number of students enrolled, making it so schools of all sizes are measured on the same scale.

Another new change this year is shoppers can now win, too. Shoppers receive one entry form for every receipt redeemed for the Earning for Learning program. Every Monday before the mall opens at 10 a.m. one entry form will be randomly chosen and that shopper will win a $50 Indian Mound Mall gift card. All remaining entry forms from that previous week are then discarded and the gift card contest starts over.

Shoppers can redeem their receipts for points and gift card contest entry forms at the Mall Office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the Gift Card Center next to Sbarro in the Food Court on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“We changed the program because with so many schools out there in need of money, it was hard limiting our winners to just three schools,” says Dustin Christensen, General Manager for Indian Mound Mall. “It’s been great seeing the response from the program change with so many more schools being supported by our shoppers. We’ve already had shoppers turn in receipts for 27 schools compared to only 18 schools being represented in the first week of the 2009 program.”

Last year, over 46,000 points were totaled for the Licking County area schools.  Blessed Sacrament won the 1st place grand prize for the fourth year in a row. St. Frances was a first time winner coming in 2nd place. Utica Jr. High won 3rd place

Every school in the Licking County area is eligible to participate in the contest, with no pre-registration from the schools needed.
